It is natural to be skeptical about the latest gadgets-gone-gaga trend: the Internet of Things (IoT). The IoT is Starting to Fundamentally Change the Way Some Big Companies Operate. According to Gartner, there will be close to 5 billion ‘connected things’ this year, with the number likely to increase five to ten fold by the end of this decade. Panel:

Bruce Sinclair started in the business of IoT in 2008 as CEO of a venture-backed company that developed one of the first IoT platforms for service providers. He is President of Iot-Inc, a media company than helps managers build their IoT business and product lines. He advises enterprises on developing their IoT business and is a featured author for publications such as Forbes, Light Reading, Network World and ZDNet. “What’s hot is an IoT business making money.”

Vincent Lefebvre is a Solution Architect and Technical Program Manager, currently advising Internet of Things (IoT) startup companies. With over 25 years of experience guiding development teams on enterprise wired and wireless networking products and services, his enthusiasm for the IoT stems from his background in embedded systems, networking, and distributed systems. He has served as Engineering Director for Partnerships in the Wireless LAN division of Motorola Solutions (MSI), leading global cross-functional teams to develop solutions with third party technology integrations. “Partnerships are the foundation of successful end-to-end IoT solutions that can scale into the future.”

Mary Vincent is Co-Founder and CTO of LifetimeMD a health wearable IoT startup. Mary is also an Entrepreneur in Residence at SK Telecom Innopartners where she participates in pipeline review meetings of applicant startups to receive up to $1 Million in Funding, lends expertise to the decision making process for seed investments, and serves as a subject matter expert assisting companies to obtain funding and overcome technical roadblocks. Ms. Vincent’s background includes work in Sun Microsystems Java Engineering, Data Center Energy Efficiency, Mobile Health Application development with Stanford and Government Projects. Mary has a unique understanding of the software and hardware worlds and how they work together, and often speaks about the future of wearables and how we can use technology to improve lives.

Dr. Jonathan Reichental, currently the Chief Information Officer (CIO) for the City of Palo Alto, is a multiple award-winning technology leader whose 25-year career has spanned both the private and public sectors. In 2013 he was recognized as one of the 25 doers, dreamers, and drivers in government in America. He also won a best CIO in Silicon Valley award and a national IT leadership prize. His innovative work in government has also been recognized by the White House. Dr. Reichental works with his teams to apply technology innovation in organizations to create new value and to enable work to be more meaningful and fun. “The Internet of Things is the ultimate platform for building the future of our cities.”

Martin Griss is a Principal Research Scientist at Carnegie Mellon University, Silicon Valley and Director of the Disaster Management Initiative. He was Campus Director, Associate Dean, and Director of the Mobility Research Center. He has 40 years of research and management experience in context-aware mobile systems, sensor-enabled software agents, smart buildings, and software engineering. He has lectured and consulted widely, and has published over 100 articles, a book, multiple book chapters and columns. His BS is from the Technion, and his PhD from the U of Illinois, both in Physics. “Surfing the sea of IoT devices requires intelligent assistance.”

Dan Sharoni is a Technical Product Management Executive, Inventor, Entrepreneur and Intrapreneur. He drives technology commercialization in corporate innovation centers, SMB and startups, focusing on outstanding User eXperience. He has 20+ years in Electrical, HW and SW Engineering leadership, at Fortune 500 enterprises such as Dell, Inc. Accenture Tech Labs, HP, IBM and Adobe. He is a founding team member at mySimon and IXYS startups, both successfully exited. Dan is the inventor of USPTO patents in mobile security. His consulting brand: Prosumer Mobility specializes in Enterprise Mobile Security, Bring Your Own Device (BYOD), Wearables and IoT security and privacy.
